Quick answer
Staking NEO earns rewards for helping secure the network, quoted as an annual percentage yield (APY). Your reward is roughly stake x APY x time, but it is paid in NEO — a volatile asset — and dilution, unbonding periods and taxes cut the real return. This tool pre-fills a typical 1.5% APY you can adjust.
How this is calculated
Rewards compound with the standard formula final = principal × (1 + APY/n)^(n × years), where
n is your compounding frequency (choose "no compounding" for simple interest). Dollar values
multiply coin amounts by the live NEO price; the optional price-change field revalues the final
position, not the yield itself.
The pre-filled APY is an indicative native-staking rate (1–2.5% range, verified 2026-07-12) — actual rates float with network participation, and platforms take commissions. Sources and update cadence are on the methodology page.
NEO staking facts
- Unbonding period
- None — NEO stays liquid; GAS accrues while you hold and vote
- Minimum stake
- No minimum, though voting for a council candidate raises the yield
- Compounding
- manual (you receive GAS, a separate token, not more NEO)
- NEO doesn't stake in the usual sense — simply holding it generates GAS, a separate token, from roughly 5 GAS minted per block.
- Voting for a Neo Council candidate boosts your GAS yield; purely passive holders earn only the base rate.
- The dollar APY (~1–2%) is modest and paid in GAS, so your return tracks the GAS price, not NEO's.
