Quick answer

This converter turns any coin into dollars, euros or pounds — or directly into another coin — using live mid-market rates with no spread added. Coin-to-coin conversions use a cross-rate through a common currency. Real exchanges add a spread and fees on top, so treat this as the fair baseline price.

How this is calculated

Every conversion crosses through the US-dollar spot price: result = amount × (USD price of from) ÷ (USD price of to). Coin prices come from CoinGecko's spot feed; euro and pound rates are derived from the same source at the same moment, so both sides of the conversion are consistent. There's no spread and no fee in these numbers — what you see is the mid-market rate, the midpoint real venues quote around (your exchange will fill you slightly worse; that difference is their margin — how conversion rates work breaks down exactly where the gap goes).

Rates load live every time you open the page. When the live feed can't be reached, the converter drops to a dated bundled snapshot and says so in a banner with the data's date — you'll never be shown a cached number dressed up as a live one. The mechanics, sources and rounding rules are documented on our methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

How does this crypto converter work?
Every asset is priced in US dollars from CoinGecko spot data, and conversions cross through that USD price — so any of the 101 supported coins can be converted to USD, EUR or GBP, or directly into another coin. Rates are fetched live when the page loads; if the API is unreachable you'll see cached prices with their date clearly labeled.
Why is the rate different from my exchange?
This converter shows the mid-market spot rate — no spread, no fees. Exchanges add both: a buy/sell spread plus a trading or conversion fee, so the amount you actually receive will be slightly lower. The difference is the exchange's margin, not an error in the rate.
Can I convert one coin directly to another, like ETH to BTC?
Yes. Pick any two cryptocurrencies and the converter crosses their USD prices — 20 ETH at $3,200 equals exactly 1 BTC at $64,000. That's the same math an exchange's convert feature performs before adding its fee.
Which currencies are supported?
All 101 cryptocurrencies tracked across CryptoSums (from Bitcoin to long-tail alts) plus three fiat currencies: US Dollar, Euro and British Pound. Fiat-to-fiat also works, using the same USD cross rates.
How current are the rates?
Live rates are fetched from CoinGecko each time the page loads. If that fails (ad-blockers, offline), the converter falls back to a dated snapshot (as of 2026-07-21) and tells you so in a banner rather than presenting stale numbers as live.
