Quick answer

To calculate Ethereum profit, subtract your buy price from the sell price, multiply by the quantity of ETH, then subtract fees; ROI is that profit over what you invested. This tool pre-fills the live Ethereum price on the sell side and updates profit, ROI and break-even as you type.

How this is calculated

The calculator first converts your investment into coins: quantity = (amount − buy fee) ÷ buy price. Selling that quantity at your sell price gives gross proceeds; subtracting the sell fee gives net proceeds.

Profit = net proceeds − amount invested, and ROI % = profit ÷ amount invested. The break-even row solves the same equations backwards: the sell price at which net proceeds exactly equal your original investment after both fees.

The buy price pre-fills with ETH's price one year ago from our bundled Ethereum dataset, and the sell price follows the live market price — both stay fully editable. Data sources are documented on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

How is Ethereum profit calculated?
Profit = (quantity × sell price) − fees − amount invested. Quantity is your invested amount divided by your ETH buy price, minus any buy fee. ROI is profit divided by the amount invested — the calculator shows every intermediate step, including the break-even sell price after fees.
What would $1,000 of ETH bought one year ago be worth now?
About $641.53 — a -35.8% return before fees and taxes, based on the Jul 14, 2025 price of $3,013.62 and our 2026-07-21 snapshot. The calculator above uses the live ETH price, so the exact figure moves with the market.
What if I bought ETH at its all-time high?
A $1,000 buy at the Aug 2025 intra-month high (about $4,956.78) would be worth about $390.04 today — -61%. Test any exact date and amount with what if I bought ETH.
Is Ethereum profit taxable?
In most countries, yes — selling, swapping or spending ETH is usually a taxable event. Estimate what you might owe with our crypto tax calculator, which covers 10 countries including the US, UK and Germany.
What is a realistic trading fee?
Spot fees on major exchanges typically run 0.1%–0.6% per side; instant-buy or card purchases can cost 1.5%–4%. Enter your exchange's actual fee in the fee fields — or compare tiers side by side in the fee comparison calculator.
